Liquid Courage...or lack thereof...

Went to funk night at Call the Office last night. I made the mistake of telling some people I'm taking breakdancing lessons. The reality of it is, I've only had 2 and a half lessons so far, so I still have a LOOOOOng way to go before I can break it down with the rest of em. With everyone knowing that, I kept getting pushed into the middle of the breakers circle just to walk right back out of it. Even the three-beer-drunk I had going on didn't help the situation.

What is it about booze and drugs that brings out the confidence to speak to strangers and dance like an idiot? Hmmm I wonder....

Ethyl alcohol or ethanol, known commonly as alcohol, is the same whether the beverage is wine, beer, or hard liquor. Beverage alcohol is a drug that depresses the central nervous system, like barbiturates, sedatives, and anesthetics. Alcohol is not a stimulant. There is no question that the person who drinks alcohol seems stimulated. Speech becomes free and animated, social inhibitions may be forgotten, and the drinker can begin to act and feel more emotional. But these effects are misleading; the "stimulation" occurs only because alcohol affects those portions of the brain that control judgment. "Being stimulated" by alcohol actually amounts to a depression of self-control. A principal effect of alcohol is to slow down brain activity, and depending on what, how much, and how fast a person drinks, the result is slurred speech, hazy thinking, slowed reaction time, dulled hearing, impaired vision, weakened muscles and fogged memory. Certainly not a stimulating experience!

So basically what this article is telling me is that I still had social inhibitions and self-control last night.

I've come to the conclusion that I either need to drink more, or get better at dancing before I can hit the floor. I'm leaning towards the latter.

Plus, all this talk about 'being stimulated', and 'a stimulating experience' has got me thinking....

I have to go......
